The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) on Tuesday placed 17 areas nationwide under Level 1 heatwave status, or the alert category.
MetMalaysia said 11 of the affected areas are in the peninsula, involving Larut and Matang, Kuala Kangsar, Kampar and Batang Padang in Perak; Kuala Krai in Kelantan; Kuantan, Raub, Temerloh and Pekan in Pahang; as well as Hulu Selangor and Gombak in Selangor.
In Sabah, five areas were placed under Level 1, namely Telupid, Tenom, Sandakan, Pitas and Beluran.
Marudi in Sarawak was also listed among the areas experiencing the alert-level hot weather conditions.
According to MetMalaysia, Level 1 status is issued when the daily maximum temperature in an area reaches between 35°C and 37°C for at least three consecutive days.
The public are advised to remain cautious during prolonged hot weather, particularly when spending extended periods outdoors, as temperatures can rise further during the afternoon.
