A man in his 30s was arrested after allegedly attempting to evade a police inspection in Meru, Klang, only for checks to reveal that he had previous drug-related offences and tested positive for drugs.
The suspect was detained at around 6.10pm yesterday after police spotted him driving recklessly and allegedly attempting to escape a patrol car (MPV) inspection along Jalan Persiaran Hamzah Alang.
Klang Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Ramsay Embol said the suspect’s attempt to flee ultimately led to his arrest.
“Investigations found that the suspect had several previous records related to drug offences. A urine screening test also returned positive for drugs,” he said in a statement today.
Ramsay said the case was being investigated under Section 188 of the Penal Code for disobeying an order to stop issued by an authority, as well as Section 186 for obstructing a public servant from carrying out their duties.
The case is also being investigated under Section 279 of the Penal Code for allegedly driving recklessly and endangering other road users.
Meanwhile, members of the public with information about the incident have been urged to assist the investigation by contacting investigating officer Sergeant Nurul Aida Roslan, Assistant Criminal Investigation Officer at the Klang Utara district police headquarters, at 016-5033572.
The arrest came after a video circulated on Threads showing the suspect being detained by police, along with damage reportedly sustained by a police MPV and another multipurpose vehicle
