A 50-year-old man who went missing while searching for cattle in the Sementah Forest Reserve in Lanchang, Temerloh on Monday was found safe on Tuesday.
Pahang Fire and Rescue Department Operations Division assistant director Mohd Salahuddin Isa said the man was located at about 4pm in Kampung Bongsu, approximately seven kilometres from the area where he was initially reported missing.
He said the man’s wife realised he was missing at around 12.30am after he failed to return home.
The missing man had earlier contacted his son, who was in Putrajaya, at about 8.50am and reportedly said he was inside the forest, feeling exhausted and speaking in a weak voice.
His wife subsequently attempted to contact him but received no response, raising concerns that he may have become lost in the forest.
Mohd Salahuddin said the woman later lodged a police report after suspecting that her husband had become stranded in the area.
“Based on information from his friend, the man is believed to have entered the forest to search for missing cattle,” he said.
The man’s motorcycle was later discovered by his friends along a roadside near the Sementah Forest area as they carried out an initial search.
Following the report and information received, a search and rescue operation was launched by personnel from the Mentakab Fire and Rescue Station.
The operation was also supported by police personnel, the Civil Defence Force (APM) and local villagers, who joined the search effort.
The man was eventually located safely in Kampung Bongsu, bringing the search operation to a successful conclusion.
