NGO Chairman, Wife To Be Charged Over Alleged RM13 Million Fund Misappropriation

Date:

The chairman of a non-governmental organisation (NGO) and his wife are expected to be charged at the Seremban Sessions Court on Wednesday in connection with the alleged misappropriation of nearly RM13 million in the organisation’s funds.

The man, who is also a well-known religious influencer, is expected to face the charges alongside his wife, who serves as the NGO’s secretary.

A source from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) confirmed that both individuals are expected to appear before the Seremban Sessions Court at 9am today.

“The individual and his wife will be charged in connection with a case opened by the MACC several months ago,” the source said.

The case reportedly involves allegations that the religious preacher, who is in his 30s, abused his position and misappropriated funds belonging to the NGO.

He was previously detained by the Negeri Sembilan MACC to assist investigations into suspected abuse of power and financial misconduct involving the organisation.

Investigators believe the suspect allegedly abused his position and worked with other committee members to transfer funds from the NGO into his personal bank account and eight company accounts linked to him.

The impending charges mark the latest development in the MACC’s investigation, with the court proceedings expected to shed further light on the alleged movement and use of the organisation’s funds.

Both suspects are expected to be brought before the court as investigators proceed with the case under the relevant provisions of the law.
