Three people were killed in a two-vehicle collision along Kilometre 80 of Jalan Johor Bahru-Mersing on Tuesday, with police identifying all three victims.
The deceased were Toyota Vios driver Muhamad Shuhairil Soraiya, 21, his passenger Nur Fatin Nabilah Yusrishahrun, 20, and Honda City driver Muhamad Amin Mukhtar, 35.
Kota Tinggi district police chief Superintendent Yusof Othman said preliminary investigations found that the Toyota Vios may have skidded before entering the opposite lane and colliding with the Honda City.
“All three victims suffered serious injuries to their heads and bodies and were pronounced dead at the scene.
“Their remains were subsequently taken to the Forensic Unit at Kota Tinggi Hospital for further procedures,” he said on Wednesday.
The crash prompted firefighters from the Kota Tinggi and Mersing Fire and Rescue stations to rush to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 5.05pm. Eight personnel were involved in the rescue operation.
Firefighters used specialised equipment to free the victims who were trapped inside the vehicles following the collision.
Police are continuing investigations and have urged anyone with information about the accident to contact the Traffic Investigation Division at the Kota Tinggi district police headquarters or the nearest police station.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
