Police have arrested a 36-year-old man believed to be linked to the theft of donation boxes from three mosques in Pasir Mas, with total losses estimated at RM3,000.
The suspect was detained by officers from the Pasir Mas district police headquarters Criminal Investigation Division at about 7.30pm on Monday while he was outside an eatery in Kampung Dangar.
Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said police seized several items during the arrest, including a Yamaha Avantis motorcycle, a helmet, a motorcycle key, a shirt, a pair of trousers, RM40 in cash, a metal spanner and three donation boxes.
He said checks found that the suspect had three previous drug-related records and two criminal records.
“The suspect also tested positive for methamphetamine following a preliminary urine screening,” he said.
Mohd Yusoff said the arrest had helped police resolve three cases involving the theft of mosque donation boxes reported in the district, with the combined losses estimated at RM3,000.
The suspect has been remanded for four days from Tuesday until Friday to assist investigations under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft in a building.
Police are continuing their investigation into the alleged offences and are also examining the items seized during the arrest.
