Three passengers were injured after a tour bus travelling from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur veered off the North-South Expressway early this morning.
The incident occurred at about 5am at Kilometre 177.6 of the northbound expressway. The injured passengers were two Singaporean women, aged 59 and 62, and a 46-year-old British woman.
All three victims were taken to Jasin Hospital for further medical treatment.
The accident also gained attention online after well-known actor Datuk Aaron Aziz shared several photographs and video clips of the incident on his Instagram account.
In his post, Aaron said a bus carrying his cousin had been involved in the crash and overturned, leaving several passengers injured. He also appealed to members of the public near the location to provide assistance.
Jasin district police chief Superintendent Lee Robert said preliminary investigations indicated that the bus veered off the road while its driver was attempting to avoid a lorry ahead that had suddenly slowed down.
“The bus consequently veered to the left of the road. The incident occurred on a straight, dry stretch of road under good weather conditions,” he said when contacted.
Lee said police had yet to identify any public witnesses or obtain closed-circuit television or dashcam footage linked to the accident.
He added that the three injured passengers were treated in the yellow and green zones after suffering injuries to their legs and heads.
The 31-year-old bus driver was not injured in the incident. Police will also conduct a urine screening test on him as part of their investigation.
The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
