Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob is set to be charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court tomorrow under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009.
His lawyer, Datuk Amer Hamzah Arshad, confirmed that Ismail Sabri, 66, will attend the proceedings, which are scheduled before Sessions Court Judge Suzana Hussin at 9am.
The Bera MP is expected to face a charge under Section 36(2) of the MACC Act 2009 relating to the declaration of assets. The provision concerns information and declaration requirements during investigations.
Ismail Sabri was initially scheduled to be charged on Aug 7, but the proceedings were postponed to Aug 27 after he was admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) for health reasons.
The postponement was granted after Amer Hamzah told the court that his client was experiencing a possible irregular heartbeat, or arrhythmia, and was scheduled to undergo a pacemaker procedure. He said Ismail Sabri had experienced heart problems while recording his statement with MACC on Aug 6.
The former prime minister had previously been called several times by MACC to have his statement recorded in connection with an asset declaration submitted to the anti-graft agency.
The investigation has also seen MACC seize RM170 million in cash in various foreign currencies, along with 16kg of pure gold bars estimated to be worth RM7 million.
The seizures were carried out during searches of residences and an office allegedly used as a “safe house”, following investigations into four senior officers linked to Ismail Sabri who were arrested in February 2025.
The case has attracted considerable public attention as the former prime minister prepares to face the court over the asset declaration allegations.
Ismail Sabri has since undergone a pacemaker procedure and his lawyer previously said he was recovering and expected to attend tomorrow’s proceedings.
