API Hits 222 In Sri Aman As Unhealthy Air Spreads Across 29 Areas Nationwide

Air quality in Sri Aman, Sarawak, continued to worsen this morning after the area recorded an unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) reading of 222 as of 8am.

Data from the Environment Department’s Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) showed that 29 other locations, mainly across Sarawak, Perak and the Klang Valley, also recorded unhealthy air quality levels.

Sarawak remained among the worst-affected areas, with eight monitoring stations registering unhealthy readings. The highest after Sri Aman was recorded at the Serian district police headquarters at 193, followed by Sarikei at 188 and Kuching at 169.

Samarahan and Mukah each recorded an API reading of 164, while Sibu registered 160. Kapit and Bintulu recorded readings of 153 and 151 respectively.

In Perak, unhealthy air quality was detected in five locations. Taiping recorded 155, followed by Tanjung Malim at 154, Tasek Ipoh at 147, Seri Manjung at 119 and Pegoh Ipoh at 101.

Several areas around the Klang Valley were also affected. Cheras recorded an API reading of 160, while Batu Muda registered 155 and Putrajaya recorded 152.

Selangor recorded unhealthy readings in Shah Alam at 153, Johan Setia at 151 and Petaling Jaya at 112.

In Kedah, Sungai Petani recorded the highest reading at 161, followed by Langkawi at 156 and Alor Setar at 155.

Penang also saw unhealthy conditions in Minden at 160, Seberang Prai at 157 and Seberang Jaya at 156.

Unhealthy API readings were also recorded in Nilai and Seremban in Negri Sembilan, Kangar in Perlis and Segamat in Johor, highlighting the spread of poor air quality across several parts of the country.
