A foreign man seen suddenly falling onto the road at the Batu Lanchang flyover on Friday had already been detained by police in connection with a separate house trespass case.
A 22-second video showing the man dropping onto the middle of the road, narrowly avoiding a passing vehicle, has since gone viral on social media.
Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rozak Muhammad said the incident took place at about 4.16pm on Friday on the Batu Lanchang flyover.
He confirmed that no one was injured in the incident and said the man was a foreign national believed to be from Myanmar who did not have valid travel documents.
“There were no casualties reported in the incident. The man was actually a foreigner, believed to be from Myanmar, without valid travel documents,” he said today.
Rozak said police had detained the man in relation to a separate house trespassing report lodged in Jalan Kurau, Jelutong.
“Initial investigations found that the suspect is believed to have mental health issues,” he added.
The case is being investigated under Section 448 of the Penal Code and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
The viral footage had earlier prompted warnings to motorists after the man appeared to place himself in the path of vehicles, raising concerns over road safety.
Police have urged members of the public not to draw conclusions or spread unverified claims based solely on the video, as speculation could create unnecessary alarm among motorists and other road users.
