Two brothers who went missing while carrying out an activity in the Bukit Putus Lama area near Jkin Extreme Park were found safe shortly after midnight on Sunday.
Negeri Sembilan police chief Datuk Alzafny Ali Ahmad said the two men, aged 55 and 60, contacted the MERS 999 emergency line at about 5.30pm on Saturday after becoming lost in the area.
A search and rescue (SAR) operation was launched, with personnel from Paroi police station and the Ampangan Fire and Rescue Department arriving at the location at about 6.17pm.
Alzafny said one of the men remained contactable and told rescuers that they were near checkpoint six of the Rigger Hills trail. He also shared their location through WhatsApp, allowing the search team to narrow down the area.
A team comprising police, Fire and Rescue Department personnel, Civil Defence Force (APM) members and a Jkin guide then entered the forest to locate the brothers.
At about 10.50pm, a second SAR team involving members of the Fire and Rescue Department’s Special Tactical Operations and Rescue Team (STORM), together with another Jkin guide, was deployed to reinforce the operation.
The brothers were finally located at around 12.32am in a safe condition, although both had suffered minor injuries.
They were subsequently taken to Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital for medical treatment.
Alzafny said the operation involved a total of 34 personnel from various agencies as well as members of the public.
The successful rescue brought an end to the hours-long search after the brothers managed to alert authorities and provide their location while inside the forest.
