18-Year-Old Motorcyclist Killed In Crash With Car In Kota Tinggi

Date:

An 18-year-old food shop worker was killed after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a car at Kilometre 35 of Jalan Sungai Rengit–Kota Tinggi on Sunday.

The victim, Shafiq Nazhiq Suradi, died at the scene after suffering severe injuries to his head and body.

Kota Tinggi district police chief Superintendent Yusof Othman said police received information about the crash at around 9.10am.

He said the accident involved a Yamaha 135LC ridden by Shafiq and a Perodua Aruz driven by a 76-year-old local man.

A 14-year-old local boy was also travelling as a pillion rider on the motorcycle at the time of the incident.

“Initial investigations found that the Perodua Aruz was attempting to exit the Bandar Mas junction, while the motorcycle was travelling along the straight road towards Bandar Penawar,” he said in a statement.

The collision left the teenage pillion rider with serious injuries to his head and body. He was subsequently taken to Sultan Ismail Hospital for treatment.

The driver of the Perodua Aruz suffered a fractured right shoulder and was sent to Kota Tinggi Hospital for medical attention.

Shafiq’s remains were taken to the forensic unit at Kota Tinggi Hospital for further procedures as part of the investigation.

Police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which concerns causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
