‘No Need To Put Gambling Ban In Manifesto’ — Sanusi Defends PAS Stance

Date:

PAS does not need to include a ban on gambling in its election manifesto as the party’s position against the practice is already clearly stated in its policies and constitution, said Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor.

He said PAS’ Islamic principles, which form the foundation of the party’s struggle, reject gambling as part of efforts to uphold Islamic values in the country.

“PAS’ policy is Islam, PAS’ call is ‘Allahuakbar’, and in Islam itself, gambling is not allowed.

“It is already stated in the PAS Constitution, Clause 5. There is no need to wait for the manifesto,” he told reporters after the Anak Muda Podcast held in conjunction with the 72nd PAS Muktamar at the Pusat Tarbiah Islamiah Kelantan in Pengkalan Chepa on Thursday.

Sanusi was responding to a video by Perlis Mufti Professor Datuk Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin, who challenged PAS to include bans on gambling and alcohol in its election manifesto.

On a related matter, Sanusi said the Kedah state government was awaiting the next legal developments following the possibility that gambling premises operators could file claims for compensation in court.

“They want to bring a case for compensation, so we will fight it,” he said.

Sanusi also urged the public to stop viewing gambling as a way to make money or relying on luck to improve their fortunes.

“Whether you are from Kedah or anywhere else, don’t depend on luck by gambling,” he said.
