Umno Supports Stronger Malay Unity, Says Political Stability Must Come First

Date:

Umno will support any agenda aimed at protecting Malay interests while strengthening unity and political stability in the country, said party secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.

He said Umno remained committed to initiatives that could strengthen cooperation among Malay-based political parties, in line with the aspirations of party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

“We support any agenda that can ensure the aspirations of the Malays are protected.

“This is a major party and we want to see a good partnership that can strengthen Malay unity, while at the same time supporting the bigger aspiration of ensuring political stability in the country,” he told reporters after attending the 72nd PAS Muktamar here today.

On PAS’ invitation for Umno to attend the muktamar, Asyraf said the matter had been discussed by the Umno Supreme Council, which decided to accept the invitation.

“As Malays and Muslims, we accept the invitation.

“PAS will send its representatives to the Umno general assembly, and we will send our representatives to the event that has invited us,” he said.

Asked whether the reciprocal invitations pointed to a new political trend between the two parties, Asyraf said it was too early to draw any conclusions.

“It is still too early. We continue to support efforts towards Malay unity and political stability,” he said.

On preparations for the Umno general assembly, Asyraf said the party would hold a special press conference to announce further details.

He said nearly 7,000 delegates were expected to attend, with participation involving between 8,000 and 12,000 Umno families.

The 2026 Umno General Assembly will be held at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur from Sept 9 to 12, with 6,401 official delegates expected to attend from across the country.
