PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang has stressed that unity among Muslims is obligatory while division is forbidden, in line with the Islamic duty to carry out Allah’s commands and uphold amar makruf nahi mungkar.
Abdul Hadi said PAS remained confident that the determination of who enters heaven or hell ultimately rests with Allah SWT, provided His commands and instructions are followed.
He described PAS as a “vessel” representing a congregation or political party that is obliged to fulfil Allah’s commands and answer His call, in accordance with His promises.
“PAS has remained steadfast since Islamic scholars and leaders built this vessel.
“PAS members are required to show wala’ (loyalty) to Allah and the Messenger, as well as to leaders who remain committed to the purpose for which PAS was established, following the ‘road map’ determined by Allah with steadfastness,” he said.
Abdul Hadi made the remarks in his latest Minda Presiden PAS post, which cited Allah’s words in Surah al-An‘am, verse 153, concerning the straight path of Allah and the prohibition against following other paths that could lead people away from it.
He said many people were unprepared for the journey because they could not withstand the numerous trials they faced, while also being influenced by Satan’s whispers and various arguments aimed at rejecting the truth rather than relying on evidence.
According to Abdul Hadi, Muslims had been instructed to take the prophets as their examples because they believed in the promise of heaven, rather than placing their faith in philosophers and thinkers who did not believe in Allah but were highly admired, such as Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela.
He said this was reflected in Surah al-Baqarah, verse 214, which reminds Muslims of the trials faced by earlier generations, when the prophets and believers with them asked when Allah’s help would come.
“What! Do you think that you will enter Paradise, although such trials as came to those who passed away before you have not yet come to you? They were afflicted with calamities and hardships and were so shaken that even the Messenger and the believers with him cried out, ‘When will Allah’s help come?’ Surely, Allah’s help is near,” he said, quoting the verse.
Abdul Hadi described PAS as a vessel for a journey that must be established, saying the party believed in the vessel and its compass because it believed in Allah’s promises and the conditions attached to them.
He said this was different from predictions made by people, whether academics, politicians or those who were merely interested in politics or opposed to it.
He also cited verses 29 to 31 of Surah al-Kahfi, which describe the fate of wrongdoers who are promised hell and believers who perform righteous deeds and are promised Jannatul ‘Adn.
“PAS is ready to engage in discussions based on knowledge and good manners with anyone in the pursuit of truth, while maintaining a vision that extends from this world to the hereafter,” he said.
