Nine people, including a child, were injured after a Toyota Hiace van crashed into the rear of a trailer near a petrol station at a rest and service area along the Shah Alam Expressway (Kesas) on Tuesday.
One of the victims was trapped in the driver’s section of the van following the collision.
Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Senior Fire Officer I Mohd Redzuan Mohd Rani said the Kuala Lumpur Operations Centre received an emergency call about the accident before deploying personnel and officers from the Bukit Jalil Fire and Rescue Station to the scene.
“When we arrived at the location, we found that the accident involved a van that had crashed into the rear of a trailer,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.
Mohd Redzuan said nine victims were involved in the crash, with one man trapped in the driver’s section.
Seven other adult victims, including a child, suffered minor injuries, he said.
“Firefighters carried out an operation to free the trapped victim and successfully extricated him,” he said.
Three victims were taken to Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL), while six others were sent to University Malaya Medical Centre (PPUM) for further treatment.
“The status of one other victim is still being handled by the relevant authorities,” Mohd Redzuan said.
