Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has remembered the late Captain Zainol Afiq, who once flew him during his campaign for the 15th General Election (GE15).
Anwar said memories of the late pilot resurfaced when he called Zainol’s father, Bee Sham Ahmad, to convey his condolences to the family.
“Recalling the memories of when the late Captain Zainol was responsible for flying me during the GE15 campaign deeply moved me and touched the deepest part of my heart,” he said in a Facebook post today.
Anwar described Zainol’s death as an immense test, particularly for his family and young children.
He prayed that Allah SWT would grant the family strength, resilience and patience as they face the difficult days ahead.
Anwar also assured that the Madani Government would ensure the needs of Zainol’s family, as well as those of the other four victims, received due attention and assistance.
“I also extend my thoughts and prayers to all the families and next of kin of the five victims who died in the tragedy involving a BO-105 helicopter, registration 9M-LLF, which crashed and caught fire in Long Lellang, Sarawak, yesterday afternoon,” he said.
“May Allah SWT have mercy on them, forgive their sins, shower His blessings upon their souls and place them among the martyrs.
“Malaysia mourns their sacrifice and service to the nation. Al-Fatihah,” he said.
