Woman Loses All Left-Hand Fingers After Getting Trapped In Factory Grinder

Date:

A 25-year-old factory worker suffered serious injuries after her left hand became trapped in a grinder at a food processing plant in the Kelemak Industrial Area here on Thursday.

Melaka Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Division assistant director Mohd Shahrom Laji said the department received an emergency call about the incident at 10.50am.

He said the woman’s left hand was injured and all her fingers could not be saved.

“When the operation team arrived at the scene, they found that the woman’s hand was trapped in the factory’s grinder.

“The operation commander was informed that the victim was taken to Alor Gajah Hospital to be sedated before firefighters could dismantle the machine,” he said in a statement on Thursday.

Mohd Shahrom said rescuers began the operation after the victim was sedated by turning the machine in the opposite direction.

“The victim’s hand was successfully freed from the machine in less than five minutes.

“The hospital then provided further treatment for the victim’s hand, while the machine was disinfected,” he said.

A total of 10 personnel from the Alor Gajah Fire and Rescue Station were deployed to the scene.

The operation was brought under control at 11.53am and concluded five minutes later, after which the fire engine and personnel returned to the station.
