Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has responded playfully to a jibe from his deputy, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, using the terms “Guru” and “Slayyy” in his latest Facebook post.
Anwar, who arrived safely in New Delhi to attend the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit, used both terms while updating Malaysians on the country’s diplomatic mission.
“Alhamdulillah Guru has safely arrived in New Delhi, India, to carry the country’s name on the world stage at the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit.
“Pray that this diplomatic mission achieves its goals. May the student learn from Guru how Madani Diplomacy is translated into action. Slayyy,” he wrote.
The light-hearted post was believed to be a response to Zahid’s policy speech at the Umno General Assembly, which was held at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur on the same day.
In his speech, Zahid, who is also Umno president, took jabs at several government policies concerning taxation and economic uncertainty, while repeatedly referring to the leadership of the unity government metaphorically as “guru”.
The use of “guru” also refers to a popular trend and meme on Malaysian social media, where the term is often used by netizens when offering advice or making indirect jibes.
Zahid also drew attention for using Gen-Z slang while urging younger delegates to bring fresh ideas into the party.
Anwar’s decision to reuse “Guru” and “Slayyy” in his official post from New Delhi has been viewed as a humorous and friendly diplomatic-style response between the country’s two top leaders.
