A family dispute and pressure following a recent divorce are believed to have led to a 56-year-old woman being stabbed in the stomach and killed in Kampung Katagayan, Tambunan, on Friday.
Keningau district police chief Superintendent Erwansyah Abdul Basir said preliminary investigations found that the 31-year-old suspect was believed to have been under pressure after recently going through a divorce.
“Preliminary investigations found that there was a misunderstanding and the suspect was under pressure because he had recently divorced.
“In the incident, the suspect used a knife, causing injuries to his mother’s stomach,” he told Sinar Harian on Saturday.
Erwansyah was responding to questions about the motive and weapon allegedly used in the incident involving the suspect’s biological mother.
The man was arrested to assist investigations after his mother was found injured at a rented house.
Police received a report about the woman’s death at about 2pm.
The suspect was later apprehended by villagers at a sulap in Kampung Sukung, Tambunan, before being taken to the Tambunan Police Station.
Several items believed to be linked to the incident were also seized, while the victim’s body was sent to hospital for a post-mortem.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
