An 89-year-old man’s attempt to park his vehicle ended in an accident after he allegedly pressed the accelerator instead of the brake, causing the car to hit three people in Pandan Perdana on Saturday.
The incident occurred at about 11.15am on Jalan 4/8 and involved a motorcyclist, a flower seller and a pedestrian who were in the area at the time.
Ampang Jaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Khairul Anuar Khalid said the elderly driver was in the parking area when the incident happened.
“As a result, the motorcyclist, flower seller and pedestrian fell by the roadside and sustained injuries. All three victims subsequently received treatment at a nearby hospital,” he said.
He said investigations found that the accident was caused by the driver’s negligence.
The case is being investigated under Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules 166/59, which carries a compound of between RM300 and RM2,000 upon conviction.
A 43-second video of the incident has since gone viral on X.
