“I’m not ready yet.”
That was the brief response from Jamaliah Tengku Ismail, 67, wife of 68-year-old Muhamad Nasir Abdul Talib, one of 55 Malaysians who remain unaccounted for following the floods in Nepal on Aug 26.
Jamaliah also declined to comment when asked about the type of assistance or information the family was hoping to receive from the government at this stage.
She likewise did not respond to questions about whether the family had received any new updates from the Foreign Ministry, Malaysian Embassy or authorities in Nepal and China in recent days.
Muhamad Nasir was previously reported to have travelled to the Nepal-Tibet region with a group of friends.
The group left a hotel at around 3.30am Nepal time, with their last known location reported to be Yala Cafe between 6am and 7am.
Jamaliah had previously said she continued to hope her husband was safe as long as there was no official confirmation about his fate.
On Saturday, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan was reported to have said Malaysia was negotiating with the Nepalese government on a way to officially verify the status of the 55 Malaysians still unaccounted for.
He said the move was necessary to allow their families to manage matters including insurance claims and documentation.
For now, Muhamad Nasir remains among the Malaysians whose whereabouts have yet to be confirmed, leaving Jamaliah and her family waiting without certainty over his fate.
