Former Used-Car Director Faces 71 Cheating Charges Over RM4.7 Million

A former director of a used-car trading company was charged in three Sessions Courts here today with 71 counts of cheating involving a total of RM4.7 million in vehicle purchase transactions.

Kee Cher Kian, 34, pleaded not guilty to all the charges, which were read separately before three judges.

Before Sessions Court Judge Azrul Darus, Kee faced 26 charges of allegedly cheating businessman Wong Yoong Jed by inducing him to believe that various vehicles were being purchased.

The alleged offences resulted in Yoong Jed transferring RM1.693 million from the bank accounts of Lio Capital and Viso Capital into the bank account of Buycar2u, the company of which Kee was a director.

Before Judge Norma Ismail, Kee faced another 30 similar charges involving the same complainant and RM1.981 million.

He was also charged before Judge Muhammad Ilmami Ahmad with 15 similar offences involving RM1.027 million.

The alleged offences were committed at several bank branches in Kuala Lumpur between July 5 and Aug 3, 2022.

All 71 charges were brought under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of between one and 10 years, whipping and a fine upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutors Siti Suriatey Mohamed Yusoff and Eugenie Meredith Gilbert appeared for the prosecution, while Kee was represented by lawyer J. Matthews.

Judge Azrul granted Kee bail of RM180,000 with one surety and ordered him to surrender his passport to the court.

Judges Norma and Ilmami set bail at RM10,000 and RM25,000 respectively, bringing the total bail across the three cases to RM215,000, with one surety.

The cases have been fixed for mention on Oct 16 for the submission of documents.
