Sabah’s rights and interests under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), including its 40% revenue entitlement, must continue to be addressed through sincere and constructive engagement, said Head of State Tun Musa Aman.
In his Malaysia Day 2026 message, Musa said Sabah and Sarawak remained integral partners in the Federation, with their contributions and aspirations needing to be recognised as Malaysia moves forward.
He said Sabah still had much to address, particularly development gaps involving basic infrastructure, reliable water and electricity supplies, roads and connectivity, healthcare, education and economic opportunities.
“A stronger and more prosperous Sabah ultimately means a stronger and more prosperous Malaysia,” he said.
Musa stressed that development must reach every district, town, village and rural community across Sabah.
He also called on Malaysians and political leaders to safeguard racial and religious harmony, stressing that political gains should never be pursued by exploiting racial or religious sentiments.
He said Sabah’s long-standing tradition of tolerance and mutual respect must be preserved as the country continues to develop.
