A 20-year-old man caused a stir after climbing an 18-metre telecommunications tower and refusing to come down for about four hours, reportedly because he wanted to be respected by his family.
Kishor, also known as Moni Sinha, from Chhattisgarh, climbed the tower near Ahimsa Chowk, close to the MLA Hostel, on Tuesday morning.
While perched on the tower, Kishor was reportedly heard repeatedly making the demand “ghar pe izzat hona”, which means he wanted to receive respect from his family at home.
His actions prompted emergency teams to rush to the scene and try to persuade him to climb down safely.
Police officers from Sitabuldi and Ambazari police stations also arrived to help manage the situation as crowds began gathering at the location.
Hundreds of people reportedly flocked to the area to see what was happening, causing traffic around the scene to slow down.
The unusual incident was even compared to a “Veerugiri” stunt, referring to the character Veeru from the popular Bollywood film Sholay.
After about four hours, firefighters finally managed to persuade Kishor to give up and come down from the tower.
He was then escorted to safety by the firefighters, bringing the dramatic incident to an end and clearing the area of the crowd that had gathered to watch.
