Porsche Driver Surrenders After Driving Against Traffic To Escape Johor Roadblock

Date:

A 43-year-old local man has surrendered to police after a viral video showed a white Porsche allegedly driving against traffic to bypass a roadblock in Iskandar Puteri, Johor.

The 12-second footage, which circulated on social media, captured the sports car being driven recklessly through a police checkpoint at KM6.5 of Jalan Ismail Sultan.

Iskandar Puteri acting police chief Supt Saifullah Jaya @ Yahaya said the district Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division detected the video before identifying and locating the driver.

The man turned himself in at the Iskandar Puteri District Police Headquarters on the same day the footage surfaced. A preliminary urine screening test found no traces of narcotics.

Police are investigating the case under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.

If convicted, the driver faces up to five years in prison, a fine of between RM5,000 and RM15,000, and a minimum five-year driving licence disqualification.

Saifullah said police would not compromise on reckless driving that could endanger motorists and the driver himself, adding that investigations are ongoing.
