17-Year-Old Allegedly Stabs Brother-In-Law After Witnessing Fight With Sister

Date:

A 17-year-old teenager has been remanded for seven days after allegedly stabbing his 18-year-old brother-in-law three times in an early morning attack in Minyak Beku, Batu Pahat.

The suspect, who works as a secondhand shop assistant, is believed to have been under the influence of drugs when he allegedly attacked the victim, injuring his back and lungs.

The incident reportedly took place at about 5am yesterday at a house in Taman Desa Sri Banang. The suspect is believed to have used a 14.5cm knife to stab the victim in the chest and back.

The attack came a day after the victim had an argument with his 14-year-old wife, who is the suspect’s sister, at about 5pm. The suspect reportedly witnessed the argument but did not intervene.

He later returned to Rengit before allegedly making his way back to the victim’s house without other family members noticing.

According to police, the suspect kicked the victim while he was sleeping before stabbing him when he woke up. Other family members were asleep at the time and were reportedly unaware of the attack.

The suspect fled after the incident, while the seriously injured victim was taken to Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital by his mother-in-law. He remains hospitalised in stable condition.

Police arrested the suspect at a secondhand goods shop at about 12.30pm the same day.

Batu Pahat district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani confirmed the incident, saying the suspect had been remanded for seven days to assist investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt using a dangerous weapon or means.
