A man with the honorific title “Datuk” was arrested by enforcement officers from the Johor Islamic Religious Department (JAINJ) after allegedly committing khalwat (close proximity) with his young widow employee at a house in the district yesterday.
The man, said to be in his 60s, reportedly slipped into the 30-something woman’s home at 2am while his wife was asleep. According to JAINJ, the raid followed public complaints about the pair’s behavior at the residential area.
“That night, the man went to the widow’s house while she was alone. His wife had dozed off around 11pm and did not realise he had left,” JAINJ said.
The woman is a widow who works for the man at a roadside food stall and also manages the stall’s finances. “Their interaction at the stall appeared normal, but they had an intimate relationship in private, unknown to his wife,” the department added.
The wife, who is around the same age as the man, seldom visits the stall because she often rests at home due to knee problems.
Both suspects will be charged under Section 27 of the Johor Syariah Criminal Offences Enactment 1997, which carries a fine of up to RM3,000, up to two years’ imprisonment, or both.
