UMNO Launches Fundraiser To Help Najib Pay RM50m Fine

Date:

UMNO has launched an initiative to raise funds to help former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak settle the RM50 million fine imposed on him.

UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the party’s leadership, members, supporters and others who wished to show their support could contribute voluntarily through an initiative that would be carried out transparently, systematically and in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations.

Zahid also expressed his gratitude to Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim following the decision allowing Najib to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.

“This development is very meaningful for him and his family, as well as the entire UMNO family, who have never stopped hoping and praying,” he said in a statement today.

Zahid said UMNO had maintained from the outset that the application should be pursued respectfully and through the proper channels.

“Respect for the institution of the Malay Rulers, the supremacy of the Constitution and the rule of law will continue to be our guiding principles,” he said.

He also urged UMNO members to respond to the development with gratitude, exercise restraint in their statements and respect all established processes.

“May Allah SWT continue to grant Your Majesty well-being and safeguard the peace and harmony of our country,” he said.
