Police have yet to receive official confirmation on whether former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak will serve his remaining sentence under house arrest at his Langgak Duta residence.
Sentul district police chief Assistant Commissioner Anuar Bakri Abdul Salam said police deployment in the area remained unchanged from the arrangements announced on Sunday.
“There is no increase in personnel because we have not received any information yet,” he said when contacted this morning.
Anuar Bakri said police would increase their strength if they received confirmation that Langgak Duta had been designated as Najib’s house arrest location.
Asked whether police had received any information on when Najib could be transferred from prison, he said: “Not yet. My side has not received any information.”
On Sunday, Anuar Bakri said a mobile police station would be deployed near Najib’s Langgak Duta residence from 7am as part of security preparations in case the former prime minister was transferred there. The deployment is intended to facilitate security during the transfer, manage the presence of local and foreign media and supporters, and prevent traffic congestion.
He stressed that the mobile police station was not intended to provide round-the-clock security for Najib. Monitoring him under house arrest would fall under the Prisons Department, while police would facilitate his movement and maintain security during the transfer process.
Four Prisons Department officers had also visited the Langgak Duta residence earlier to conduct an inspection and assessment. Separately, Bernama reported that two Prisons Department vehicles were seen at the residence on Sept 19.
The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, has consented to a conditional pardon allowing Najib to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to a RM50 million fine.
However, Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar said Najib must first pay the RM50 million fine at the Kuala Lumpur High Court Registrar’s Office before the house arrest process can proceed. Najib’s lawyers have said he is seeking advice and considering his options on how to fulfil the payment condition.
