Fourteen areas nationwide recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 9am today, with 10 of them located in Sarawak.
According to the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System, Sibu recorded the highest reading at 178, followed by Sri Aman at 169 and Mukah at 168.
Other areas in Sarawak with unhealthy readings were IPD Serian (160), Kuching (157), and Samalaju, Bintulu, Kapit and Sarikei, all at 156. Samarahan recorded a reading of 155.
Outside Sarawak, Putrajaya recorded an API reading of 151, while Shah Alam recorded 109, Nilai 108 and Politeknik Kota Kinabalu in Sabah 103.
Meanwhile, 51 areas recorded moderate air quality, while three areas recorded good readings.
Under the API classification, readings between 0 and 50 indicate good air quality, while 51 to 100 indicate moderate air quality.
Readings from 101 to 200 are classified as unhealthy, 201 to 300 as very unhealthy, while readings of 301 and above indicate hazardous air quality.
