Federal police are investigating a 2018 theatre performance over alleged mockery of the Rukun Negara and racially sensitive dialogue that may contain elements of sedition.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk M Kumar said three actors featured in a now-viral clip of the performance were detained in Johor and Selangor.
The suspects, aged between 28 and 47, have since been released on police bail.
“One of the actors has passed away, while another is based in the United Kingdom,” Kumar told reporters.
Police are also investigating the case under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which covers the improper use of network facilities.
Kumar said authorities are also working to identify the individual responsible for circulating the clip online.
The roughly 10-minute video features five actors reciting the principles of the Rukun Negara, accompanied by statements that police believe could be considered racially sensitive.
The footage is believed to have originated from a theatre performance staged during the Theatre for The Arts event in 2018.
