Police have opened an investigation after a video showing a man allegedly assaulting a woman in Felda Kledang, Gugusan Adela, near Kota Tinggi, went viral.
Kota Tinggi district police chief Superintendent Yusof Othman said police detected the 44-second video circulating at around 9.30am on Tuesday.
The video shows the man allegedly pushing and kicking the woman, while also shouting at her and hurling vulgarities.
Several individuals believed to be family members can also be seen attempting to restrain and calm the man.
Yusof said a local woman, who was also the person who recorded the incident, had lodged a police report.
“Following the report, an investigation paper was opened under Section 323 of the Penal Code,” he said in a statement.
He added that the case was also being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Yusof said investigations were ongoing and urged the public not to speculate about the incident, warning that such speculation could interfere with the investigation and harm any party involved.
