A pickup truck driver believed to be intoxicated lost control and ploughed into five vehicles waiting at a traffic light at the Alor Gajah–Melaka–Jasin (AMJ) Highway in Cheng early Thursday morning.
The crash, which occurred around 7.30am, left six people with minor injuries. All were rushed to Melaka Hospital for further treatment.
Melaka Tengah district police chief ACP Christopher Patit said initial investigations revealed that the Mitsubishi Triton pickup was travelling from Bandar Melaka towards Cheng when it hit the road divider.
The vehicle then veered into the opposite lane, crashing into two BMWs, a Perodua Axia, a Perodua Myvi and a Nissan Almera.
“No fatalities were reported and none of the victims sustained serious injuries,” he said in a Thursday statement.
The case is being investigated under Section 44 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs causing injury or death.
Earlier, photos and videos of the crash went viral on social media, showing the pickup crossing from the opposite direction before ramming into the stationary vehicles.
