Three areas in Sarawak have been placed under a thunderstorm warning, with heavy rain and strong winds expected until noon today (Sept 25).
According to the warning, the affected areas are Mukah, Selangau in Sibu and Bintulu.
The warning was issued at 8.50am today and is valid until 12pm.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department said thunderstorm warnings are issued when there are signs of thunderstorms accompanied by rainfall exceeding 20mm per hour, either occurring or expected to occur for more than an hour.
It added that a thunderstorm warning is a short-term alert and is valid for no more than six hours for each issuance.
Residents in the affected areas are advised to remain alert and take precautions during the period of heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds.
