Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is mourning the death of his eldest brother, Idrus Ibrahim, who passed away on Thursday.
Anwar shared the news in a Facebook post while travelling back to Malaysia, saying he was deeply saddened to receive the news during his journey home.
He expressed regret that he was unable to be by Idrus’ side during his final moments.
“On my journey back to Malaysia, I received the heartbreaking news that my brother, Idrus Ibrahim, had passed away.
“It is difficult to put into words the sense of loss when someone who shared so many memories throughout my life is suddenly gone. Only Allah knows how heavy my heart feels in accepting this reality,” he said.
Anwar said he was saddened that he could not be with his brother at the end, but accepted the loss despite still struggling to come to terms with the separation.
He also shared an emotional photograph of himself embracing Idrus, describing the memories and kindness left behind by his late brother as something that would remain in the family’s hearts.
Anwar urged friends and members of the public to pray for Idrus, asking that Allah forgive his shortcomings, shower mercy upon his soul and place him among the faithful and righteous.
“Thank you for all the memories and kindness you left behind. They will remain etched in our memories and hearts,” he said.
