PAS is prepared for any outcome, including the possibility of cooperating with Barisan Nasional (BN) or contesting separately in the upcoming Melaka state election.
PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the party’s election machinery would abide by whatever decision is made by its leadership.
“As for BN holding negotiations with the coalition, I am not sure about that. We are prepared whether there is cooperation or not,” he said when contacted.
Tuan Ibrahim said PAS, together with its political allies, would nevertheless make every effort to secure the best possible result in the Melaka election.
“PAS has never taken any election lightly, and we hope the wave of success in Negeri Sembilan can continue in Melaka,” he said.
His remarks came after BN confirmed that it would hold two separate meetings with two different political groups next week to discuss possible cooperation for the Melaka state election.
BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the two meetings had been arranged by the BN headquarters on different dates and at different times.
However, he did not disclose the identities of the two groups, leaving open the possibility that they could involve Perikatan Nasional (PN), Pakatan Harapan (PH) or other political parties.
Tuan Ibrahim, who is also Kubang Kerian MP, said PAS and PN had already begun preparations for the election well in advance, with the state-level election machinery already launched.
He said the party was ready to proceed regardless of whether an electoral cooperation agreement with BN materialises.
