Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) has called on Juasseh assemblyman Datuk Ismail Lasim to step down as Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar amid the ongoing dispute involving the state’s royal institution.
AMK chief Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim said the developments in the state were, in his view, deeply damaging to the dignity of the royal institution and customary traditions of Negeri Sembilan.
“It is inappropriate for a reigning Malay ruler to be treated in such a manner by a group that often speaks about defending the position of the Malays, Islam and the royal institution,” he said in a post on Threads on Sunday.
Muhammad Kamil further alleged that the actions of those involved amounted to a betrayal of the trust they claimed to uphold.
He said the dispute should instead be handled properly through the procedures and laws governing the state.
He also referred to the matter having been brought before the courts and said an injunction had been issued.
Muhammad Kamil alleged that the actions were driven by the political interests of certain groups and described them as disrespect towards the Malay Rulers.
“In this situation, the most appropriate step would be for Datuk Ismail Lasim to step down honourably as Menteri Besar of Negeri Sembilan,” he said.
Ismail, who was sworn in as Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar on August 2, has maintained that matters concerning the position of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar must be resolved according to the state constitution and constitutional monarchy principles.
