A Sessions Court today sentenced a 42-year-old prisoner to five years in jail and one stroke of the cane after he pleaded guilty to raping a fellow inmate at Marang Prison earlier this month.
Judge Mohd Zul Zakiqudin Zulkifli handed down the sentence to Mohd Ridzuan Zahar after the charge was read to him and he entered a guilty plea.
Mohd Ridzuan was accused of raping a 23-year-old male inmate at around 3am on September 4 inside a cell at Marang Prison.
The offence was charged under Section 377C of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of between five and 20 years and whipping upon conviction.
The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Anith Nabilah Rusli, while Mohd Ridzuan was represented by National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK) lawyer Abdul Hayyi Salim.
