15-Year-Old Ordered To Undergo Psychiatric Assessment After Allegedly Killing Mother

Date:

A 15-year-old boy has been ordered by the Kuala Kangsar Magistrates’ Court to undergo a psychiatric assessment at Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta in Tanjung Rambutan after he was charged with causing the death of his mother last week.

Magistrate Azlin Zeti Zainal Abidin issued the order after the teenager was found unable to understand the charge read to him by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Mirza Zulaikha Mohd Fadzly.

During the proceedings, the magistrate asked the teenager whether he understood what had been read to him, but he indicated that he did not.

The court was also informed that the teenager had a history of mental health issues. As a result, no plea was recorded.

The prosecution did not offer bail and requested that a new mention date be fixed after the psychiatric assessment report is obtained.

According to the charge, the teenager allegedly caused the death of his mother, Nor Ainon Omar, 49, at Kampung Cheh Kati on September 23.

He was charged under Section 304(a) of the Penal Code for causing death with the intention of causing death, an offence classified as culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

The court will determine the next course of action after receiving the psychiatric assessment report.
