A 19-year-old male student has been arrested after his girlfriend was found dead at a homestay in Kuantan, Pahang, following an alleged argument between the couple.
The incident reportedly occurred at around 4am today at a homestay along Jalan Air Putih 2.
According to China Press, the victim and suspect were both 19-year-old Indian students at Sultan Ahmad Shah Polytechnic (POLISAS) and were in a relationship.
The couple had reportedly rented two rooms at the homestay on a monthly basis together with two other female students.
Sources said the male student allegedly strangled his girlfriend following an argument. He reportedly contacted police and surrendered himself after the incident, with officers subsequently arresting him at the scene.
Police cordoned off the homestay as forensic personnel conducted investigations and collected items from the room, including bedsheets, as potential evidence.
Pahang Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Mohd Yusri Othman and Kuantan district police chief ACP T. Jee Choong were also reported to have visited the scene to oversee the investigation.
The victim’s body was later taken to the hospital mortuary for a post-mortem.
The couple were said to have occasionally argued, although there had been no previous reports of physical violence between them.
Police have yet to disclose further details on the circumstances surrounding the incident or the motive behind the alleged killing.
