A woman was injured after a Perodua Kancil crashed into an eatery at the Bornion Commercial Centre in Luyang, Kota Kinabalu, this morning.
The incident, which occurred at around 6.23am, was captured in a 15-second CCTV recording that later went viral on social media.
The footage showed the vehicle suddenly ploughing into the premises before crashing into a food stall and hitting a woman nearby. Tables, food items and restaurant equipment were sent scattering across the front of the eatery following the impact.
Kota Kinabalu district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shahrudin Mat Husain said the crash occurred after the adult male driver failed to ensure the vehicle was in a safe gear before starting or moving it, causing the car to lurch forward into the premises.
He said the vehicle subsequently struck the woman, who was seated inside the eatery having a drink.
“The victim did not sustain serious injuries, remained conscious and was able to move after the incident,” he said.
The woman was later taken by her husband to Queen Elizabeth Hospital II for medical examination and treatment.
Police personnel from the Luyang station also went to the scene to inspect the damage.
Shahrudin said investigations into the incident were ongoing.
