Former Merlimau assemblyman Dr Akmal Saleh has threatened to take legal action against a social media user over an allegation that he had stolen money and used the allegedly stolen funds to help people in need.
Akmal, who is also Umno Youth chief, demanded that the user, operating under the account name Shafii Halid, issue a public apology within two hours of his Facebook post being published.
“There is nothing wrong with having differing opinions, but making accusations and demeaning assistance provided to the people is unacceptable.
“If there is no apology, I will see you in court,” Akmal said in the post, published at 10.46pm.
He also uploaded screenshots of the user’s Facebook profile and the comments containing the alleged accusation.
Akmal later responded directly to Shafii’s comment, describing the allegation as defamatory and saying he had saved the user’s details.
The former state assemblyman has not indicated whether legal proceedings have since been filed.
