The government will cover 50% of study costs for public servants pursuing master’s and PhD programmes through the Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning for Qualification (Apel.Q) programme.
Public Services Department (JPA) director-general Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz said the initiative was part of new measures introduced to help civil servants improve their academic qualifications by leveraging their professional experience.
He said the programme would particularly benefit public servants who had spent many years in service, as their accumulated work experience could be taken into consideration when pursuing higher education.
“Apel.Q is among the facilities provided by the government, alongside the federal training award and various other forms of sponsorship, to encourage public servants to enhance their knowledge, skills and competencies,” he said.
He was speaking to Bernama at Dewan Tuanku Canselor, Universiti Malaysia Kelantan, in Bachok today.
The initiative is aimed at giving experienced civil servants greater access to postgraduate education while recognising the knowledge and skills they have gained throughout their careers.
