A woman and two children were killed after the car they were travelling in crashed into the rear of a lorry that had stopped on the roadside due to a burst tyre in Bukit Talang, Jalan Raja Musa, Kuala Selangor, on Thursday.
Kuala Selangor District Police Chief Superintendent Azaharudin Tajudin said the accident occurred at around 1.30pm as the Proton Exora, driven by a 44-year-old woman, was travelling from Bestari Jaya towards Tanjong Karang.
The woman, a 12-year-old girl and an eight-year-old boy sustained serious injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.
Another passenger in the Proton Exora was injured in the crash. All the victims were taken to Hospital Tanjong Karang.
Azaharudin said police received information about the fatal accident at approximately 2.39pm on Thursday.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which concerns causing death by reckless or dangerous driving. The investigation is being led by Inspector Norzalikha Ghazali.
Police have urged anyone with information about the accident to assist with the investigation by contacting the Kuala Selangor District Police Headquarters operations room at 03-3289 1222 or visiting the nearest police station.
Azaharudin also reminded motorists and motorcyclists to exercise caution on the road and comply with traffic regulations.
