Two nurses in Matsudo, Chiba Prefecture, Japan, have been dismissed after filming a hospitalised patient without permission and uploading the video to social media.
A third nurse who viewed the footage in the group was issued a stern warning.
Chiba Nishi General Hospital, operated by the Tokushukai Medical Group, announced the disciplinary action on Saturday, according to Sankei Shimbun.
The incident occurred during a night shift on October 5, when the two nurses filmed a patient lying in a hospital bed and took selfies inside the hospital without authorisation.
The footage was subsequently uploaded to X with captions including “so bored”, “hell house” and “this job sucks”.
Hospital director Kazuo Misumi said on the hospital’s official website that the content was completely inappropriate for healthcare professionals. He also issued an apology over the incident.
On Friday, the hospital apologised to the family of the patient who was filmed and reported the matter to the municipal authorities and local public health centre.
To prevent similar incidents, the hospital plans to provide staff training on the ethical and responsible use of social media.
