Motorists around Bandar Sunway, Subang Jaya and the Damansara-Puchong Expressway (LDP) were left stuck in extraordinary traffic congestion from the morning into the afternoon, with some reporting journeys taking several times longer than usual.
Social media posts showed long queues of vehicles along several routes in the area, with traffic moving at a crawl. Some commuters said the congestion had yet to ease even after midday.
One user, @fattinaishh, said a journey from Shah Alam to SS14 that normally took about 10 minutes had stretched to roughly an hour.
“I left the office at OUA Shah Alam at noon because I had a dental appointment at 12.30pm. It usually takes only 10 minutes to get to SS14, but today it took an hour. I have no idea what caused the jam,” she wrote.
Another user, @nrl_omey, reported that traffic around Bandar Sunway remained heavily congested at 12.40pm, despite the roads usually clearing between 10.30am and 11am.
“Usually, traffic here is already moving by 10.30am to 11am. But look at this — at 12.40pm, it is still jammed and not moving. From the Bandar Sunway toll all the way up,” the user wrote.
The frustration was echoed by @berry_anchun, who said traffic was still severely congested at around 12.30pm, particularly for vehicles attempting to exit towards the LDP.
The user appealed for traffic police to step in, saying: “Traffic police, please help. We don’t want Sunway auxiliary police handling traffic when it gets this bad. Please send traffic police down; you are more experienced.”
Congestion also appeared to persist into the afternoon. A post shared at around 2pm showed long lines of vehicles on the road in front of Sunway Medical Centre (SMC).
Photographs and videos posted by motorists similarly showed vehicles backed up along several roads around Bandar Sunway, with traffic moving slowly.
Meanwhile, Astro Radio Traffic reported at 12.50pm that traffic on the New Pantai Expressway (NPE) was moving slowly from SS17 towards Sunway.
The congestion was attributed to a broken-down bus occupying the left lane of the exit ramp leading to the LDP.
