Wife Allegedly Hacks Husband’s Neck With Machete Over Social Media Profile Picture

Date:

A woman in Indonesia has allegedly slashed her husband with a machete following an argument over their social media profile pictures, leaving him with a severe neck injury that required around 50 stitches.

The incident occurred at a house in Mampu Baru village, Merangin district, Jambi, at around 11pm local time last Friday.

According to Tribun Jambi, the suspect, identified as M, allegedly attacked her husband, H, after they argued over the profile pictures on their respective social media accounts.

Merangin Police Criminal Investigation Unit chief Assistant Commissioner Eka Putra Yuliesman Koto said the argument began when the husband questioned why his wife was not using a picture of them together as her profile photo.

The woman subsequently changed her profile picture to a photograph of the couple, as requested by her husband.

However, the husband allegedly changed his own profile picture to a photograph of himself alone, triggering another argument.

“The victim changed his social media profile picture back to a photograph of himself, and the suspect found out, leading to another argument,” Eka Putra said.

Police said the dispute escalated when the woman allegedly took a machete from the back of the house and attacked her husband in the living room.

The victim sustained serious injuries to the left side of his neck and his right hand before being rushed to hospital for treatment. His neck wound required approximately 50 stitches.

The suspect was subsequently arrested without resistance.

Investigations also found that the couple had been married in a religious ceremony that was not officially registered for approximately 11 months.

Meanwhile, the suspect claimed that she had previously experienced domestic violence and frequently been subjected to verbal abuse by her husband.

Police are still investigating the allegations, which have yet to be verified.

The woman is being investigated under Article 466(2) of Indonesia’s Criminal Code, which carries a maximum prison sentence of five years upon conviction.
