A 70-year-old man was injured after he was allegedly struck on the forehead with a tin of glue by a man he had reprimanded for making a disturbance outside a business premises in Segamat on Thursday.

Segamat district police chief Superintendent Mohd Jumazanzahir Chek Ismail said preliminary investigations found that the incident occurred in front of a business premises along Jalan Mohd Yusof, Kampung Abdullah.

The victim had reportedly confronted the suspect, who was allegedly making noise and behaving aggressively outside the premises, prompting the latter to strike him on the head with a tin of glue.

“The suspect then fled the scene, while the victim sustained a wound to his forehead and sought treatment at Segamat Hospital,” he said in a statement on Friday.

Acting on information received, a team from the Segamat district police headquarters’ Criminal Investigation Division arrested a 40-year-old local man believed to be involved in the incident.

Police also seized a tin of glue, a shirt and a pair of jeans to assist in the investigation.

Checks revealed that the suspect had 33 previous records involving criminal and narcotics offences, although his initial urine screening test returned negative for drugs.

“The suspect admitted to being involved in the incident during further questioning,” Mohd Jumazanzahir said.

He added that preliminary investigations indicated the attack was allegedly motivated by the suspect’s resentment after being reprimanded by the victim. The suspect was also believed to have been intoxicated at the time.

The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code. Police were scheduled to apply for a remand order at the Segamat Magistrate’s Court on Friday to facilitate further investigations.
