Two female journalists were injured after the car they were travelling in was allegedly hit from behind by a lorry at a traffic light junction near Taman Kledang Permai in Ipoh early on Sunday morning.
The incident occurred at around 5.45am as the journalists were travelling to Bagan Datuk to cover a programme involving Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The car was reportedly stopped at a red light when a lorry crashed into it from behind, causing the vehicle to spin.
Ipoh district police chief Assistant Commissioner Muhammad Najib Hamzah confirmed the incident when contacted, saying further investigations were underway.
Meanwhile, Zahid took to his official Facebook page to express his concern and wish both journalists a speedy recovery.
He said he was saddened to learn that two media colleagues from Bernama and the New Straits Times (NST) had been involved in the accident while travelling to cover the programme in Bagan Datuk.
Zahid added that both journalists were receiving medical treatment, with one still at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun (HRPB).
He also offered prayers for the journalists, identified as Dina and Zahra, wishing them a smooth recovery and a return to good health.
“Insya-Allah, let us all pray that both recover soon and regain their health as before,” he said.
